Introducing Yik Yak on the Web

A couple months ago, we shared a little secret with y’all: we've been building an early version of Yik Yak for the web, and we let some of you test it out as part of a "closed beta.”

The need for a web version of Yik Yak is obvious… when your phone’s battery is on 2%, when you don’t have cell service, or when you just want to be able to reply to a yak SUPERFAST and simply can’t type the words quickly enough on your touchscreen.

Whatever the situation, we want you to be able to yak without limitations! And part of helping you connect with the community of Yakkers around you means making it easy for you to do that in whatever way is most convenient for you. So we’re giving you the flexibility to yak away with your herd, whether that’s on your phone or your computer!

Today, we’re excited to announce that Yik Yak for the web is now moving to a public beta — which means that ALL of you are now able to yak away with your local herd on your laptop or desktop!

Here's how it works

  • To get started, head over to from the web browser on your laptop and click “Login.”

  • You’ll first need to connect your computer with the phone number that you verified on the mobile app, so enter that here.
  • Next, you’ll be prompted to retrieve a unique pin from within the app on your phone – you’ll need to enter this in order to authenticate the web session. For security reasons, this pin will expire after 30 seconds, so if it takes you longer than that you’ll need to ask for a new one.
  • Once you’ve entered the pin, you should be all set to start yakking right from your laptop! (Of course, you can still yak from your phone as well).

A few things to keep in mind

You’ll find that things should function on the web just like they do when using Yik Yak on your phone – like voting, New and Hot feeds, My Herd, all our usual reporting flows, and Peek tab collections.

Because Yik Yak for the web is still in “public beta,” there will be some features that are only accessible via the phone app — but fret not, dear Yakkers, there’s lots more great stuff to come!

Give it a whirl and let us know what you think – we want your feedback!
